Identify A Friend.
Once you have received the report of nursing, work with your partner to identify how you can support each other. Ideally, this will be the nurse friend with you so you can assist each other during the day. Create a schedule of when each of you will go to lunch. Create a positive environment congratulating each other on their work. Smile at each other! This simple act can easily increase the mood of others. It's easy to get lost in patient care, so check each other often. A simple gesture like 'I'll check on your patient room 29' can help someone feel supported and promotes teamwork so you can prosper through their workday.
Take Some Time For Yourself.
A day care at the bedside of a patient can get out of control in an instant. His day was planned with a break for lunch, suddenly becomes a buzz of doctors and nurses running in your room. Do not wait until the end of the day or the day off to look after you. By then, the supercharger has been! During your workday, be kind to yourself with words. Find a journal with a design that speaks to you and get to work. Take a few minutes a couple of times during your workday to write positive comments to yourself. Embrace and celebrate the work they are doing with a written pat on the back! Perhaps a comment like 'Wow! I just shared a beautiful moment that offers support for my patient. Or, "I'm a rock star! I gave all my patient's medications on time!" Is this part of your job? Of course it is. But that does not mean you can not celebrate. I feel overwhelmed by what you can not find any positive thoughts about you? Involve your colleagues in the fun and positivity. Ask your partner to write in his journal a positive comment about her work as a nurse. We are our own worst critics and see someone write a positive comment can make a world of difference.
